The Orthoptist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye-muscle and binocular vision disorders in the pediatric and adult population. The Orthoptist works as a mid-level care practitioner under the supervision of ophthalmologists primarily following patients with strabismus and/or amblyopia. Will also assist with training 1st and 2nd year ophthalmology residents, pediatric residents, clinical fellows, and other certified orthoptists in the techniques and theories of orthoptics.

Required: BA or BS degree, Certification (including bi-annual re-certification) by the American Orthoptic Council. Current BLS Card.

Experience: Emphasis on infant and children eye examinations, ocular motility disorders and nystagmus, sensorimotor exams, retinoscopy.

Preferred: Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, verbally and in writing. Ability to put infants and children at ease while conducting eye examinations.
